Web, Interaction and Graphics Intern

Designing @ Grayhat

Think you can create, prototype, and ship interactive art for games and digital products alongside designers and engineers in fast 2–3 week cycles without slowing the team down?

This internship is designed for people who want real engineering exposure, not observation hours.

The Role

Were you the artist at home, but became an engineer because “society”? Or vice versa? Your education and skills may just be in luck.

As mentioned above, we focus on crafting great digital experiences. We’re looking for people who can create art creatively across different modalities, both digital and physical, and who aren't afraid to explore new roles and ideas. For us, new-age artists thrive only when they are comfortable with different digital tools and don’t restrict themselves. What matters is the ability to move quickly, make decisions, and keep the user in mind.

This role combines a technical and digital artist role into one - a one-person role that can create art beautifully and efficiently, while also making it interactive for humans. We’re looking for an intern who can hit the ground running, take initiative, and use AI effectively as a tool - not as a replacement for creativity or critical thinking.

We value attention to detail. We value logical thinking.

You’ll be embedded within our game and engineering teams, learning our end-to-end workflow from rapid ideation to final delivery, while contributing real features to real projects. This is not a “shadow someone” internship. You’ll write stories, prototype ideas, make decisions, communicate clearly, and create meaningful work.

What You'll Do

  1. Create art and assets for our products and projects
  2. Turn the art interactive through tools including, but not limited to, Aseprite, Rive, Webflow, Adobe After Effects / Illustrator, Blender, and also raw code
  3. Implement and test the artwork
  4. Accelerate art delivery by building internal tools and pipelines
  5. Participate in design reviews with designers and engineers, giving and receiving direct, constructive feedback
  6. Write clear task updates and documentation using our project management and documentation tools
  7. Contribute to post-mortems and help improve sprint workflows after each delivery cycle

We're Looking For

  1. Proficiency in some graphic design tool like Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent
  2. A foundation in at least one interpreted or compiled programming language
  3. Basic understanding of core game structure: game loops, mechanics, and controls
  4. Strong storytelling skills
  5. Good sketching and visual communication skills
  6. Ability to work quickly without compromising quality - you thrive under deadlines
  7. Good communication skills
  8. Empathy
  9. Comfortable collaborative workflows
  10. Curious about AI tools and willing to integrate them thoughtfully into your workflow
  11. Second-year, Third-year, or final-year student (CS, Software Engineering, Visual Communication Design, Game Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field) or a fresh graduate

Nice to Have

  1. Previously created art, e.g. student projects or personal builds
  2. Have done “vibe coding”
  3. Handwritten blogs, stories, or long-form writing samples
  4. Art, sketches, or concept work
  5. Experience conducting interviews or working in roles that require human interaction and empathy

What You'll Get

  1. A monthly stipend. This is a paid internship - it ain’t much, but it’s honest work
  2. Hands-on experience shipping products within your first two weeks
  3. Mentorship from designers who work at a pace few studios can match
  4. Exposure to a full product studio environment: design, engineering, client management, and delivery
  5. A portfolio of shipped work you can proudly showcase in future interviews
  6. A potential full-time offer if you stand out
