Product Designer & Manager Intern

Product and Design @ Grayhat

Think you can design, prototype, and manage games and digital products alongside designers and engineers while shipping meaningful features every 2–3 weeks?

This internship is designed for people who want real engineering exposure, not observation hours.

The Role

As mentioned above, we focus on crafting great digital experiences. We’re looking for people who can ideate, manage features, and speed up prototyping across different modalities - and who aren't afraid to explore new roles and ideas. For us, product design and management gravitate toward very similar territory. What matters is our ability to move quickly, make decisions, and keep the user in mind.

This role combines Product Design and Management into one - a one-person role that can solve both what a product needs and what it should look like. We’re looking for an intern who can hit the ground running, take initiative, and use AI effectively as a tool - not as a replacement for creativity or critical thinking.

We value attention to detail. We value logical thinking.

You’ll be embedded within our game and engineering teams, learning our end-to-end workflow from rapid ideation to final delivery, while contributing real features to real projects. This is not a “shadow someone” internship. You’ll write stories, prototype ideas, make decisions, communicate clearly, and create meaningful work.

What You'll Do

  1. Build and iterate on existing applications and game mechanics under tight delivery timelines.
  2. Implement and test designs.
  3. Manage product roadmaps, talk to users, make announcements, and ship features users need.
  4. Participate in design reviews with designers and engineers, giving and receiving direct, constructive feedback.
  5. Write clear task updates and documentation using our project management and documentation tools.
  6. Manage tasks for designers.
  7. Contribute to post-mortems and help improve sprint workflows after each delivery cycle.
  8. Build tools to improve internal processes.
  9. Create prototypes using code.

What We're Looking For

  1. A foundation in at least one interpreted or compiled programming language.
  2. Basic understanding of core game structure: game loops, mechanics, and controls.
  3. Strong storytelling skills.
  4. Good sketching and visual communication skills.
  5. Ability to work quickly without compromising quality. You thrive under deadlines.
  6. Good management skills.
  7. Good communication skills.
  8. Empathy.
  9. Comfortable with Git and collaborative workflows.
  10. Curious about AI tools and willing to integrate them thoughtfully into your workflow.
  11. Final-year student (CS, Software Engineering, Game Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field) or a fresh graduate.

Nice to Have

  1. Previously shipped game projects, e.g. student projects, game jams, or personal builds.
  2. Experience with rapid prototyping or “vibe coding.”
  3. Handwritten blogs, stories, or long-form writing samples.
  4. Art, sketches, or concept work.
  5. Human-made UI/UX design samples.
  6. Experience conducting interviews or working in roles that require human interaction and empathy.

What You'll Get

  1. A monthly stipend. This is a paid internship - it ain’t much, but it’s honest work.
  2. Hands-on experience shipping products within your first two weeks.
  3. Mentorship from designers who work at a pace few studios can match.
  4. Exposure to a full product studio environment: design, engineering, client management, and delivery.
  5. A portfolio of shipped work you can proudly showcase in future interviews.
  6. A potential full-time offer if you stand out.
